Every tag counts all releases in the period โ including the ~50% that launch with zero reviews โ so rates are honest base rates. Opportunity = hit-rate ร proven volume ร a penalty for crowding (releases / month), so saturated genres sink. Small-Team multiplies that by how realistically a small team ships the genre in โค1 year โ see the build-scope chip under each tag.
Of every release carrying this tag in the period (including the ~50% that get zero reviews), the share that became a hit = โฅ400 reviews and โฅ68% positive. It's an honest base rate, not survivor stats โ so it reads low (a few percent is normal at this bar).
Change in that success rate from 2024 โ 2025, in percentage points. โฒ = converting better over time, โผ = cooling off. Only shown when you have exactly the 2024 + 2025 periods selected; otherwise it's โ.
How attractive the market is, ignoring who's building. = hit-rate ร confidence (proven volume of hits, which plateaus so a genre can't win just by being huge) ร a crowding penalty (releases per month). Higher = real demand with less saturation. It's a relative number โ compare tags within the same view; the absolute value has no unit.
Opportunity ร buildability โ how good a bet for a small team shipping in โค1 year. Heavy genres get cut hard, so this is the column to sort by when the question is "what should I actually build." Tick "Small-team buildable only" to drop the heavy ones entirely.
A rough production-scope rating per genre: Easy build solo / small team in โค1yr (visual novels, puzzles, deckbuilders, clickers) ยท Medium build a stretch for a small team (small RPGs, metroidvanias, tower defense) ยท Heavy build large / long / online-infra heavy (open world, survival, MMO, city builders) โ usually a poor small-team bet even when demand is high. These are editable opinions about scope, not from the data.
Tip: sort by Opportunity to see where the demand is; sort by Small-Team (or use the buildable filter) to see what a small studio should chase.
